North Carolina Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program - Materials and Publications



The Adult component of the program utilizes a curriculum developed collaboratively with the Division of Public Health, Nutrition Services Branch and Physical Activity and Nutrition Branch and NC State University called, EFNEP's Families Eating Smart and Moving More (FESMM). The curriculum consists of 21 lessons under five major headings:

EFNEP's Families Eating Smart and Moving More uses both hands-on food preparation activities and incorporates physical activities into each lesson. Participants are challenged to make positive changes to achieve good nutrition and health, increase physical activity, control portion sizes, practice food resource management skills, practice food safety in preparation and practice safe storage and handling of food.

SyberShop is an interactive CD for youth ages 13-19 focusing on healthy eating and physical activity. The CD can be used individually, in the classroom as a supplemental teaching tool, or with any group of teenagers interested in eating smart and moving more. The integrated curriculum addresses core standards for healthy living, computer/technology, biology, and information skills.

Sybershop is divided into five sections:

  • Virtual Cafeteria
  • Move More for a Healthier You
  • Body Dimensions

Developed under the leadership of Dr. Carolyn Dunn, Sybershop makes a wonderful addition to your nutrition educator toolkit.
